H-60 Blackhawk
These Kits come with everything needed to take an oil sample. The key component in the kits is the Quick Tube-60. Look at the Quick Tube-60 and you will notice the ends are of different sizes. The large end is sized for an exact fit into the intermediate and tail gearboxes self sealing valves of the chip detectors, and the small end is sized to fit the input module self sealing valves of the chip detectors on H-60 type aircraft.

Routine Oil Sampling

In the Routine Oil Sample Kit, you will find your specific number of Quick Tube-60s, bottles, pre-printed labels, and a small piece of oil soak.

First, start by removing the input module chip detector. Use the piece of oil soak to catch any drops of oil that came out of the plunger. Next wipe the chip detector clean, then insert the large end of the Quick Tube-60 into a collection bottle, insert the small end into the self-sealing plunger of the input module chip detector. Monitor the flow of oil, as it is easy to overfill the bottle. Remove the Quick Tube-60 as the oil level in the bottle reaches half-full and allow the oil in the tube to drain and fill the bottle. Cap the bottle, re-insert the chip detector into the valve, fill out and affix a pre-printed label. YOUR sample is DONE.

Second, collect the piece of oil soak, another Quick Tube-60 and another bottle. Climb up the Tail Pylon. Remove the gearbox cover. Hold the oil soak under the tail gearbox chip detector and remove the chip detector. Use the oil soak to catch any fluid that leaks out while removing the chip detector. Next, insert the small end into the collection bottle, bend the end of the Quick Tube-60 down to control the directional flow into the bottle. Gently insert the large end into the gearbox. Monitor the flow of oil, and extract the Quick Tube-60 from the valve as the oil in the bottle reaches half full. Allow the oil in the tube to continue to flow into the bottle to complete the fill. Cap the bottle, re-install the chip detector, secure the gearbox cover. Fill in pre-printed label and attach the label to the bottle. YOUR sample is DONE.

Third, collect the last Quick Tube-60 and collection bottle. Remove the intermediate gearbox cover. Put the piece of oil soak material under the chip detector to catch any oil that leaks out while removing the chip detector. Next, line up the Quick Tube-60 with the self sealing plunger, put the bottle over the small end of the tube, gently bend the bottle and tube down to control the flow of oil. Gently push the large end into the self-sealing valve. Monitor the oil as it flows into the bottle. Pull the Quick Tube-60 out of the gearbox when the bottle is half full. Lift the large end up and allow the oil in the tube to flow into the bottle. Cap the bottle, re-install the chip detector, remove the piece of oil soak, re-install the gearbox cover. Affix the pre-printed label to the bottle and YOUR sample is DONE.

I am confident that once you use these products, you will not go back to the "OLD WAY" of collecting oil samples.

The crewmembers that assisted in the development of this product are continuously asking for another kit, as they have oil samples due. Now that my research and development for this product is done, they are getting expensive, but I really don't mind as providing a better product for our soldiers is my motivation for creating The Oil Sample Source.
